Assignment for 5-27 to 6-5 on Rotational 3-dimensional volumes using the disc and washer method

Hi all, hope you are well and staying safe.  Our directions for the week are below as well as some other information you should read. We will offer a team’s meeting on Friday the 29th at 1:00 P.M to go over any questions on the Area Between the Curve homework or help on notes for disc and washer.  To be included in that review you must e-mail us by 4:00 P.M. on Thursday.  Without an e-mail saying you want to attend these meetings you will not be able to. Once you e-mail one of us, you will get an invite in your school e-mail.  This is parent notification of that meeting.

Directions for Juniors for week of 5/27 to 6/5: Disc and Washer Method

There is a notes packet that goes with the video if you want to take notes to have as you complete the assignment. Upload the notes packet to schoology for Ms. Straub by 6/5 at 11:59PM.  The notes are your option for Mr. Halstead and don’t need to be turned in.

Step 2:  Watch the video on Washer Method: http://calculus.flippedmath.com/113-solids-of-revolution-washers.html

There is a notes packet that goes with the video if you want to take notes to have as you complete the assignment. Upload the notes packet to schoology for Ms. Straub by 6/5 at 11:59PM.  The notes are your option for Mr. Halstead and don’t need to be turned in.

Step 3:  Complete the discussion question on schoology by 6/5 at 11:59PM: What is the difference between the disc method and washer method and how do you know when to use each one?

Step 4:  Complete pages 465-466 Disc Method {#1,4,8,10,11a, 11c, 16,19, 23, 25, 28, 34, 38} and Washer Method {#5, 6, 11b, 11d, 14a, 14b, 18, 20, 21,29, 32} and upload to schoology for Ms. Straub by 6/5 at 11:59 PM.  For Mr. Halstead continue to do what we have been doing and e-mail pictures of the work to him on the same time frame.  As for how to do the work please draw a sketch of the curves, set up the integral, and then you can calculate the integral using your calculator.  You be thinking as you set up the integral how you would do it without the calculator but doing all of the integrals by hand will make this take longer than necessary.  These are important topics for Calculus BC and will be addressed heavier next year under the circumstances, but you need to do as good of a job as you can learning this because we will not have a huge amount of extra time to spend on these topics.  This is 40 points of work and will go in gradebook as two 20 point assignments.

Additional Important Information

·       Answers for last week’s Area Between the Curve homework are posted in schoology.

·       Remember for those taking the AP make-up test.  The college board is doing their review videos at the link below:

They are outstanding and should give you a nice review of the material and I suggest you watch as many as possible, and as I previously mentioned this week is testing tips and mock problems so watch and do as much as you can.

·       The prediction packet has many wonderful free response examples that you should have been working through.  If not start with one problem per prediction ignoring the area between curves and rotational volume prediction.  When you get done go back and start with a second cycle through.  You have enough examples to make at least three complete cycles.  If the scoring rubric does not answer your question do not hesitate to e-mail one of us and we will answer ASAP.

·       Grades are now active and building in the fourth quarter, remember the fourth quarter is all process grades and some of you are missing some significant work that has to get turned in to get a pass for the class in the fourth quarter.  Some of you are missing significant discussions on schoology, so go fill those out this week.

Miss you all very much and we know you can do this.  We will help you as much as we can under these conditions and we are proud of the work you are continuing to do.  Work hard and if we can help let us know.
Mrs. Straub and Mr. Halstead
