Welcome to online learning!

Hi all hope you are well.  If you have been working over the last two weeks you have part of the assignment for this week done already.

We are posting all assignments here as well as on schoology.  Any physical assignments bookwork or worksheets must be photographed and returned via e-mail by the due date.  The discussion questions must be answered on the schoology website.

Step 1:  If you are not comfortable with differential equations watch the video link and do the work associated with the flipped math lesson using the link below.

Flipped math lesson: differential equations

Step 2:  Finish work on the differential equation packet.  Some of you have already e-mailed this to me.  Due date on the packet is Friday 4-3-20 by 5:00 P.M.

Step 3:  Go to schoology and answer the discussion question under the solving differentiable equations folder.  Just type your response.

Step 4:  Watch the flipped math video and use materials to learn and understand how to make and interpret slope-fields.

Step 5:  We are not posting a discussion question on thesebut would like you to do the small four question assignment on slope fields that can be found using the link below, or as a pdf document on schoology within the folder.  Due date on the 4 question assignment is Monday 4-6-20 by 5:00 P.M. e-mailed back to your teacher.

Slope field assignment

Check both schoology and the blog on Monday for next weeks work and assignments.  Once video has been approved for instruction we will run some kind of review/lesson component in the future.

As always if questions arise as you are doing these topics please e-mail us and we will reply at some point during school hours as quickly as we can.

Thanks,
Mr. Halstead/Ms. Straub

AP update and keep working!!!

Hi all, hope all are safe and well:

We did get some information from the college board over the weekend.  The AP tests are going to be modified severely this year.  There will be no multiple-choice section and the exam will be 45 minutes of free response which we are assuming will be 3 free response questions.  We are hearing the exam will be taken from home using a secure browser, but do not know the details on that yet.  There will be two test dates an earlier one and a later one but we have not heard if that will be your choice or the schools as to when to assess.  They will be giving us more information on what the test will look like according to them by April 3rd.

They have reduced the content and taken away chapter 8 from the CED.  This means we have taught everything to you that is one the exam with the exception of differential equations which you have our note packet and the online resources we posted on the blog to help you.  Slope fields which there is the online resources to go through on the blog and exponential growth and decay which we will post online resources to help you with soon.

To read the full release you can go the college board websitehttps://apcentral.collegeboard.org/about-ap/news-changes/coronavirus-update

We will also post resources for the material that they have eliminated from the exam at a later date as it will be important for you in Calc 2 whether you take that at Northern High next year or in your future at college.  Even though they are not testing on those subjects, your college professors will expect you to be able to discuss and solve problems related to those topics.

In addition, there will be AP review sessions run by the college board on the topics above and other topics and they can be found using the URL below.  They will be personally taught by a member of the college board and I would think give you a strong sense of what they are expecting from these missing topics if they put them as one of the FRQ’s.  We highly suggest you watch them and let them soak in.  You can watch them live or supposedly later by what they have told us.

To find the schedule of all AP Classes and when the reviews will occur you can click herehttps://apstudents.collegeboard.org/coronavirus-updates#free-ap-classes

The Calc AB review sessions will take place starting on Wednesday 3/25 from 2-2:45. They reviews will be live. Here is a link to the Calc AB review sessions:

So, remember the stuff that was assigned before we left (practice exam, benchmark review packet, diff eq packet, is still going to be due and must be completed.)  Hopefully you worked on that stuff some last week.  If you are missing anything in gradebook, please do the work and e-mail to Ms. Straub or Mr. Halstead and we will get it in gradebook once you do so.  We have not heard anything as far as county policies on benchmarks etc… moving forward.

As far as this week is concerned, you should then be getting back to things at a high level.  Work on the stuff that is due eventually, watch the suggested videos and notes from the blog, watch the AP videos from the college board, and practice problems from the FRQ prediction packet that we gave you since that is what the exam this year is essentially going to be.

We will be playing with zoom this week and trying to learn it.  So hopefully by the end of the week or the beginning of next week we can have a live session where you can interact with us.  Miss you guys and know that you will work hard to keep yourself up to date as we see where we will be going from here.
                                                                                                                                 Mr. Halstead

The next two weeks, what it means for us!!!!

Hi all, please stay safe over the next two weeks, but we have not heard anything about an AP test move date.  So we are going to post some material for you to preview and be looking through.  We are going to have to cover this material very quickly when we return, probably a 1-day summary of each at the most.

We are going to post some suggested videos and accompanying notes that we highly suggest that you work through in your time at home.  These are not assignments that are worth a grade, but they will make your life easier when you return.

In addition remember you have some long term due dates that are still in effect.

1)  Hwk on inverses and magnum PI (Halstead was due on Monday, so due when we return),  Hwk on inverse trig workbox integrals (Straub due when you return, Halstead we haven't done notes yet so we will worry about when we come back)
2)  AP Practice exam #2 (was due Monday, so due when we return)
3)  Benchmark Review guide (was due on the 20th,  due day after your return.)  We have not heard anything about the benchmark date of the 24th, but will update the blog when we do.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hXpeuOMCMMWsymOa1fL1xUdQ4BmzqPvJ/view?usp=sharing (this is the benchmark review in case you don't have it)

4)  Differential equations packet and notes (No due date previously, but will be due April 3rd)
5)  AP prediction packet (Not an assignment but a good time to spend with the problems especially the starred ones)
6)  Check in to AP classroom, as there will be extra practice stuff there that will be extra credit

We will be using the site below is a great one to use to continue your learning:

http://calculus.flippedmath.com/

Week One:  Slope Fields and Differential Equations

A)  http://calculus.flippedmath.com/104-separation-of-variables.html  (separable differential equations or the packet you already have)

https://drive.google.com/file/d/16VwzuRFZh_QZxE-T6UsbtK75A3T6nQgL/view?usp=sharing (this is our diff eq packet if you don't have it)

B)  http://calculus.flippedmath.com/101-slope-fields.html  (slope fields and how to make them)

Week Two:  Area between two curves

http://calculus.flippedmath.com/111-area-between-curves.html  (area between two curves)

For all of these links there is a packet you can print out and an accompanied video to watch to fill out the packet with.  (its like you are watching me put notes up at board and filling them  in),  There are then practice solutions and extra practice assignments you can click on if you want to get deeper with them.

Remember that the videos and other stuff at flipped math is not due for any credit, but highly suggested that you work your way through it for our return.  This should be plenty to work on when you look at it in total.   It is essentially like you are in college and now are responsible for some of your own learning.  We will miss you and hope above all that you are safe and well, and look forward to when we can experience the joys of Calculus together again.

There is a remind that we will try to send you updates through over the next two weeks as well.
