Hi all, hope you are well and staying
safe. We really gave you the directions for this week last week,
remember you have the disc and washer homework’s due on Friday for 40 points of
hwk (2 twenty point grades) and the discussion question on schoology (5 point
grade). We will post answers to that
hwk on the following week. We will offer a team’s
meeting on Friday the 5th at 1:00 P.M to go over any questions on
the disc and washer homework or help on notes for disc and washer. To be included in that review you must e-mail
us by 4:00 P.M. on Thursday. Without an
e-mail saying you want to attend these meetings you will not be able to. Once
you e-mail one of us, you will get an invite in your school e-mail. This is parent notification of that meeting.
As for the next week
we have a bonus assignment with specific directions. The assignment is on
cross sectional volumes that are grown between two curves and outlined below. It is extra credit because the final week is
for make up work. We would like it back
by 6-10 or next Wednesday which gives you a week to work on it. If you are not going on to calc BC and you
are happy with your quarter grade then there is no need to do the assignment
below. If you are going on to
BC we need to be familiar with this topic when we get there in January next
year so it does not need to be taught from scratch and I highly suggest you do
the assignment and turn in by its due date.
As for summer
work. BC students you do not have any
summer assignment so again please do this extra credit assignment even if you
do not need it so we are prepared for next year. The only thing I ask of my BC students over
the summer is that you review your units on Limits the week or two before
school as we will be going through that pretty quickly at the beginning of the year. For students who are taking AP Statistics or
retaking AP Calculus AB, you do have a summer assignment that is outlined below and
a schoology group to join to get that assignment so please join it this week.
Summer Work for AP Statistics and AP Calculus AB: If we were in school right now we would be
meeting with students going into AP Stats and AP Calc AB to discuss summer
assignments. Since we are not, we have created a schoology group for both of
those classes. If you join the group and go into the resources you will see the
summer assignment for your respective course. Please be sure to read the front
page carefully and let me know if you have any questions.
If you are taking AP Stats next year please use the following
code to join the AP Stats group on schoology: 4JDK-5S8K-RNXQK
If you are re-taking AP Calculus AB next year please use the
following code to join the AP Stats group on schoology: MH2T-3NPS-27M8D
If you are having any
problems printing out the summer assignment let one of us know!!!
Bonus Assignment on Cross sectional Volume (definitely should do if taking BC next year):
Step
1: Watch
the video on cross sectional volume: http://calculus.flippedmath.com/114-perpendicular-cross-sections.html
There
is a notes packet that goes with the video if you want to take notes to have as
you complete the assignment.
Step
2:
Do the worksheet that has a few practice problems on this topic that can be
found at the following link:
As for how to do the work please draw a sketch
of the curves, set up the integral, and then you can calculate the integral
using your calculator. You be thinking as you set up the integral how you
would do it without the calculator but doing all of the integrals by hand will
make this take longer than necessary.

Additional Important Information
·
Remember
for those taking the AP make-up test through the exception process, the college
board is doing their review videos at the link below:
They are outstanding
and should give you a nice review of the material and I suggest you watch as
many as possible, and as I previously mentioned this week is testing tips and
mock problems so watch and do as much as you can.
·
The
prediction packet has many wonderful free response examples that you should
have been working through. If not, start with one problem per prediction ignoring the area
between curves and rotational volume prediction. When you get done go
back and start with a second cycle through. You have enough examples to
make at least three complete cycles. If the scoring rubric does not
answer your question do not hesitate to e-mail one of us and we will answer
ASAP.
·
Grades are now active and building in the fourth quarter,
remember the fourth quarter is all process grades and some of you are missing
some significant work that has to get turned in to get a pass for the class in
the fourth quarter. Some of you are
missing significant discussions on schoology, so go fill those out this week.
So essentially this
closes out this crazy year. We might send
you a reminder e-mail contact but no more assignment e-mails. REMEMBER TO DOWNLOAD YOUR SUMMER ASSIGNMENT
IF RETAKING AB OR TAKING AP STATISTICS THROUGH THE SCHOOLOGY LINKS ABOVE, AS WE
WILL BE CHECKING THEM THE FIRST OR SECOND DAY OF SCHOOL. We cannot tell you how proud we are of you all
and how you persevered through this process.
Hopefully for those of you that took the test we will get the results
you wanted, but the advantage of BC next year is that you will get a chance to
replace that score if it does not go the way you wanted assuming that the test
is your traditional BC test. Enjoy your
summer, and hopefully we will see everyone in the fall.
Take care and be safe,
Mr.
Halstead
